This masterclass offers a wide range of Opera, Operetta and Lied.

Target group:

This masterclass of KS Edita Gruberová addresses to advanced singers, singing students at art universities and conservatories as well as accompanying coaching for young professionals (repertoire choice) as well as to professional singers who are in preparation for concerts and opera performances or auditions.

Master's course:

This master class does not only deal with the musical-dramatic examination of a role/aria (interpretation and development of vocal colors, design in musical and textual content) but also with the interpretation and stage presence in particular.
The participants have the opportunity to present their skills in a representative final concert under professional conditions if KS Edita Gruberová decides for a final evening.

We ask you to be prepared for this masterclass!

Edita Gruberová is celebrated by the press as „prima donna assoluta, coloratura-phenomenon, Queen of Belcanto". Enthusiastic ovations of the audience after every appearance confirm this.

Edita Gruberova was born in Bratislava where she studied at the conservatory and with Ruthilde Boesch in Vienna. Her international career began at the Vienna State Opera as Zerbinetta in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS with Karl Böhm conducting. Since then Mrs. Gruberova is enthusiastically applauded all over the world for her interpretations of the roles of Zerbinetta, Konstanze, Donna Anna, Rosina, Gilda, Violetta and Lucia at the leading opera houses such as Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera New York, the Opera Houses of Munich, Vienna, Hamburg, Geneva, Zurich, Florence, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona. Many of these opera companies have produced rare operas especially for Mrs. Gruberova: MARIA STUARDA, I PURITANI, LINDA DI CHAMOUNIX and ROBERTO DEVEREUX at the Vienna State Opera, LA SONNAMBULA in Geneva and Naples, I CAPULETI ED I MONTECCHI in London, I PURITANI at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Bregenz Festival, ROBERTO DEVEREUX, ANNA BOLENA and beatrice di tenda in Barcelona, LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT, LINDA DI CHAMOUNIX, ROBERTO DEVEREUX, ANNA BOLENA and BEATRICE DI TENDA in Zurich, ANNA BOLENA and I PURITANI at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, only to name a few. In 2003 she had a tremendous success with her debut of NORMA in Tokyo and in 2004 as Elisabetta in a new production of ROBERTO DEVEREUX at the Munich State Opera, debut for Europe of NORMA in Baden-Baden with recording of a CD. In 2005 she had a triumph with NORMA at the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg Festival in 2010 and also with NORMA in January 2006 at the Bavaria State Opera Munich.

Edita Gruberova was a regular guest at the Salzburg and the Munich Opera Festival.

She has participated in several important opera filmings: HÄNSEL UND GRETEL, RIGOLETTO, ARABELLA, COSÌ FAN TUTTE and ARIADNE AUF NAXOS. She has worked with the most famous conductors and stage directors.


Nightingale Classics released: BEATRICE DI TENDA, LINDA DI CHAMOUNIX, ANNA BOLENA, MARIA DI ROHAN, LA FILLE DU REGIMENT, TANCREDI, LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA. Furthermore „Mad-scenes" – Arias of the Tudor-Queens, a recording with songs of famous operettas and a duo-recital CD with Vesselina Kasarova, Christmas songs, international songs for children and Canonical Songs, Lieder of Strauss and a recording with the Japanese counter tenor Yoshikazu Mera.

Edita Gruberova who is also highly acclaimed as a concert singer, she holds the title of Austrian and Bavarian „Kammersängerin". She is a honorary member of the Vienna State Opera and was awarded many distinctions: the distinguished Italian Franco-Abbiati-Price for the best interpretation of an Italian opera role (Lucia), the Sir-Lawrence-Olivier-Award and il Bellini d'Oro for her exceptional performances. She received twice the Order of the White Double Cross (Second Class), the highest state decoration of the Republic of Slovakia . Besides, she was decorated with the Herbert von Karajan- Prize, the order of merit of the Austrian Republic, The Austrian Prize for Musical Theatre (Goldener Schikaneder) for her lifetime achievement, the Richard Strauss badge of honour and the Tatra Banka Foundation Prize for Art.

In the season 2017/18 Edita Gruberova had her 50th Anniversary on stage. The Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Zürich Opera House have arranged special Gala evenings for her at this occasion.

Born 1980 in Slovakia, Peter Valentovič began his successful career as a concert pianist and répétiteur. He won several national piano competitions before he started his studies in conducting with Leopold Hager at the Music University in Vienna and with Zsolt Nagy at the Conservatoire National Superiéur in Paris.

During his studies in Vienna he was awarded with the „Viktor Bunzl Scholarship” for an extraordinary artistic talent.

Peter Valentovic was head of the music staff of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl and at the Teatro Comunale Bolzano. He was conductor and chorusmaster at the Cape Town Opera in South Africa and first resident conductor of the Istanbul State Opera.

He worked with Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Franz-Welser-Möst and Friedrich Haider.

Currently, Peter Valentovic is among the most popular conductors in Slovakia. He is a regular guest at the Slovak Philharmony, the Slovak National Opera in Bratislava and the State Opera Kosice.

In September 2018 he was appointed as the chief conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in Bratislava.

At the Vienna State Opera he worked as a vocal and language coach and musical assistant for Czech and Russian repertoire.He also worked as a vocal coach in Opera Bastille and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

In September 2013 he made his successful conducting debut at the Theater an der Wien in a Gala,Concert with Edita Gruberova.

As a pianist Peter Valentovič accompanies recitals with Edita Gruberova at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Zurich Opera, in Passau, Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Tokyo, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milano.
